The series was notable for using marionette puppets but being filmed in the style of a feature film, incorporating dynamic shooting and lighting, and three-dimensional sets and extensive use of model miniatures. Special effects were directed by Derek Meddings, who later became known for his work on the James Bond (from \u003cem\u003eLive and Let Die\u003c\/em\u003e to \u003cem\u003eGoldenEye\u003c\/em\u003e), \u003cem\u003eSuperman \u003c\/em\u003eand \u003cem\u003eBatman \u003c\/em\u003e(1989) movies.
