Accompanying the film adaptation of Harper Lee’s seminal novel, Elmer Bernstein’s delicate and sensitive score from To Kill a Mockingbird was Oscar-nominated, losing out to Maurice Jarre’s Lawrence of Arabia.
In 2003, the American Film Institute named Atticus Finch, the story’s main character, the greatest movie hero of the 20th century and in 2007 ranked the film 25th on their list of the greatest movies of all time.
Heard right from the outset of the score, the beautiful piano solo was played by a man who has become known as one of the greatest film score composers of all time; John Williams.

What a wonderful treat after all these years to finally have such a pristine, accurate, comprehensive score of this beloved classic! Thank you Chris, we are all in your debt! -Charles Bernstein
Beautifully engraved score.
I love this score and the score book was top notch as always
Great Score! and also well done 👍 keep up the good work 💪
I had studied excerpts from this score in Andy Hill's book "Scoring the Screen", and I saw that ASMAC was having Chris as a guest to review the score in July, so I wanted to have the score for the workshop. The score is the expected high quality of all the other scores that I own from Chris and the music is so understated, but perfect for the themes of the movie. My only complaint, and I know there is no solution, but it is challenging to listen to and follow the score with audio, as the titles are different and they occur in a different order on the soundtrack. This is common for all of these scores I know, but it makes for a challenge.
Hi Art, thanks so much for taking the time to leave your review. Good news! You can follow the score in book order on the playlist link below. I've used the 1963 recording as much as possible (it's not the whole score), 1991 re-recording for other gaps, and the Noteperformer playback from my notation files for all remaining cues to achieve a complete playlist. Note, whilst the cue order in my books isn't always the same as the commercial OST release, it's usually in film order, which is useful for reading along with the picture!
