Ironically, the journey in Searching for Bobby Fischer doesn’t actually include Bobby Fischer himself. Rather, it’s the presence of his spirit that propels the story of this 1993 film in the way that he inspires all chess enthusiasts.
In this scene young Josh faces off against Vinnie, one of the hustlers in New York’s Washington Square Park, in a game of chess that slowly builds steam culminating at a dizzying pace to an outstanding victory. Composer James Horner’s use of a multi-layered piano motif cleverly represents the complex minds and lightning-fast strokes of play until Josh’s theme bursts forth with triumphant power.
Created from the original manuscript, this release offers a rare opportunity to study film music in its authentic, original orchestration and arrangement. An opportunity not to be missed!
