Where 1980’s Airplane! parodied the long running Airport series, its score gave more of a tongue-in-cheek nod to the disaster movie scores of John Williams. With the movie taking sophomoric humour to the maximum, the score intentionally takes the subject more seriously, focusing on the core disaster story with militaristic motifs, and the love relationship between the two leads with a sappy romantic theme.
