By James Horner. Score. 37 pages. Published by Chris Siddall Music Publishing.
With so many audiences familiar with the classic, 22-minute cartoon narrated by Boris Karloff that has appeared for generations on network television each Christmas, director Ron Howard was the beneficiary of a studio bidding war to expand upon that faithful adaptation of the Dr. Seuss book with his own live action version of 90 minutes in 2000.
To provide music for How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Ron Howard chose a reliable collaborator who had worked with him on Cocoon, Willow and Apollo 13, and who had just won double Oscars for his work on James Cameron‘s Titanic. Horner wrote a large-scale score and augmented his orchestra with a battery of invented instruments made of pipes and other materials, in effect constructing his own jingtinglers and trumtookas to make his standard orchestra sound like something that might have been put together by the Whos down in Whoville.
Created from the original manuscript, this release offers a rare opportunity to study film music in its authentic, original orchestration and arrangement. An opportunity not to be missed!
