Marking the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ first voyage, director Ridley Scott reunites with Greek composer Evangelos Odyssey Papathanassiou, better known as Vangelis for 1492: Conquest of Paradise. Actively seeking a “non-traditional” score, Scott wanted Vangelis to provide something both appropriate for the period and also contemporary. The score which he delivered combines the vast array of synthesizers which Vangelis was well known for, with vocals from the English Chamber Choir and soloists including Spanish guitar, mandolin, violin and a variety of flutes.
