Earning composer Alan Silvestri his first Oscar nomination, Robert Zemeckis’ Forrest Gump was nominated for thirteen Academy Awards, winning six including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Director.

Taking $330 million at the box office, Forrest Gump was the third-highest-grossing film at that time behind only E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Jurassic Park.

Silvestri’s score features some of the most elegant and appealing thematic ideas of his career. This main title theme, sometimes affectionately referred to as the “feather theme” appears only twice in the picture; during the opening credits and when it returns in the final cue “I’ll Be Right Here”.
